Dear Skokie Central Family,
We are living in a very difficult and challenging time. It was just a few days ago when we were all believing that COVID-19 was a threat that couldn’t possibly enter our lives. Today, the first case in our community has been confirmed, and we now must face the hard reality than this pandemic is spreading faster than any of us imagined.
While we all firmly believe that our ultimate protector is HaKodesh Barchu, it is our responsibility to take serious and until today unimaginable action to protect ourselves, or families, and our community.
It is with serious thought that I must inform you that effective immediately, and until further notice, Skokie Central Congregation will be closed for all minyanim or any other gatherings. We are taking this action after consulting with both leading halachic and medical authorities who insist that we must do our part to limit all in-person social interaction. Halachically, we believe that these limits are more important than to daven with a minyan.
This pandemic is an unparalleled crisis in our nation’s history. How we respond will not only make a difference in the lives of many but will also define our values and faith. We look towards HaKodesh Barchu to protect us, and we look to each other to do all we can to stop the spread of this terrible disease.
